Hey, so we thought we would make our blog this week a little more personal and let you get to know the girls in our Victoria St shop a bit better. We’ve done a mini interview discussing fashion, eateries and the hidden gems of Edinburgh.

Favourite brand at Swish:

Jane – I love the newly re-branded Numph. Really easy to wear, casual tees, knits and dresses that have their own quirkiness about them. Brilliant quality too. Also Closet dresses that all fit amazingly!

Viki – Its a tie between Vero Moda and Numph. Vero Moda has good quality and value so it’s great when you want to treat yourself but can’t afford to splurge. Numph is great if you want something a bit different, their summer lines we have in at the mo are just brilliant.

Sophie – Numph, because the range is always fresh, stylish and quirky. The quality is top notch and there’s a piece for everyone.

Pick of the week:

Jane – I LOVE the “Julienne Knit” by Numph, looks great with skinny jeans.

Viki – The “Cecilia Knit” from Numph. A nice soft thin knit. Great for the weather we are currently having, works as an extra layer but doesn’t feel like your wearing loads.

Sophie – Its got to be the “Make My Day dress” from Mina. It oozes vintage style and has such elegance. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

Celeb Style:

Jane – Holly Willoughby. She’s got class and always looks lovely whether casual or smart.

Viki – Natalie Portman.  Whether she’s walking up the red carpet or just out and about she always manages to look effortlessly cool and pretty.

Sophie – Cara Develingne. Subtle ‘indie-rock chic’ style with super natural beauty. Her eyebrows are immense.

Favourite place to eat (Edinburgh):

Jane – For a nice meal: A Room in Leith down by the shore. Food after work: The Villager on George IV Bridge.

Viki – Chop Chop on Morrison St. Authentic, freshly made Chinese food. The unlimited buffet is so cheap and the food is to die for, I recommend the beef and chili dumplings.

Sophie – Shilla on Dundas St. Quirky underground Korean restaurant with a intimate atmosphere, perfect for first dates. The food is incredible and reasonably priced. After a quicky? The Tailend on Leith Walk, the best chippy in the world, everything cooked from fresh and a great selection of fish.

And for a drink…

Jane – The Fountain at Fountain Park… rough pub made nice.

Viki – The Chanter on Bread St. Cheery atmosphere, great staff and a great place to watch a game of rugby. Food platters are great also.

Sophie – Under The Stairs on Merchant St is dark, mysterious and cosy. Serves up tasty cocktails and scrumptious sharing platters. Interior is a mixture of brick walls and second hand chairs, super trendy!

Hidden Gem of Edinburgh:

Jane – The walk up Arthur’s Seat and the view.

Viki – Oink on Victoria St, the place with a hole pig in the window, friendliest staff and delicious food.

Sophie – Camera Obscura, a world of illusions. Interesting place to get lost in, things which make you eyes go fuzzy and your mind boggle! Pricey, but well worth it.

Mina’s humble beginnings originated on a small market stall on London’s famous Portobello Road in 2004. This contemporary UK brand provides feminine and vintage looks in dresses, tops and knitwear which are perfect for casualwear, occasion wear and everything inbetween!

Well we’re coming towards the end of January now (where do the weeks go?!) and we hope your all sticking to your resolutions! We’ve had a busy week here at Swish with all our new stock coming in. Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a very merry time and are ready to begin a fresh start to 2013. We celebrated our Christmas night out at the Secret Arcade Bar on Cockburn street, quite a quirky wee place with magical chairs and good vodka!

Our Victoria Street boutique is on the ball and is all ready for Spring! Although we haven’t forgotten that in Edinburgh, it likes to hold on to that chill for a fair while, so coats and cosy knitwear are still a large part of our shop. The snow has finally arrived this week and we are prepared with hats, scarfs and warm winter coats which are all hitting it off in the January sale.

Time for a new start? Time for a new you? Well that must mean time for a new Spring wardrobe no? Two of our top womens brands at Swish (Victoria St), Numph and Vero Moda have been arriving in bulk and the shop looks great with cheery colours and quirky patterns. Lets start with Vero Moda…

Vero Moda is the brand of choice for the fashion-conscious, independent young woman who wants to dress well and pay less. The brand offers quality, affordable and inspiring clothing for the young woman who wants to look good and have fun with her look. From left to right we have the striking cobalt Noel Dress, lightweight Heaven Trenchcoat and feminine Pearl Top which all come in various colours.

Numph is a Danish brand full of Scandinavian flavour. Well known for the excellent quality throughout the range, the outerwear is stylish but sturdy and the range shows creativity throughout with plenty of everyday items and something totally different always just round the corner. Below from left to right we have the Love Knit jumper with bobble detail, Mimi Scarf, soft leighweight Laura Jacket and the oversized bird print Mejse Top which also come in various colours.

We choose all of our clothes carefully and thats why we are so unique. We try and pick something fun and different from the norm and something special for everyone. So if your feeling the new year blues and want something uplifting whether its a piece of clothing or just a chat with our cheery staff just pop in and say hello.

Attention gentlemen! We’ve got your winter wardrobe sorted here at Swish with our latest new arrivals from Bellfield. Bellfield draws inspiration from all corners of the globe and exploration adventures with high quality and detail so you’ll be sure to find something you love. We’ve put together some outfits for you to have a look at; your winter must have items are right here.

First up from Bellfield is the bang on trend burgundy chinos. Burgundy and berry is everywhere this season, as is coloured trousers, which go well with the Avril shirt. The Avril shirt is constructed in brushed cotton flannel with a contrast stripe which makes it cosy and soft for fighting off the coldness. For extra warmth add the Civic Gilet; the quilted style and nomadic green colour with the woolly collar make this a wardrobe must have that you can wear again and again.

Next up is the Kush Padded Gilet in Rose. With contrasting colours and materials, this piece can make you stand out on the dark days. Wool material with a splash a blue popping through from the lining, this piece can be worn with one of our American Apparel hoods if you need another layer. A blue hood underneath can pick up on the detailing in the gilet; perfect from long winter walks! Similarly is the Oregan Padded Jacket in nomadic green or mustard – you won’t get cold in this one.

If gilets aren’t your thing then fear not. We have two very stylish jackets in from Bellfield which we love. The Elbrus Donkey jacket is a favourite. Coming in navy with army green panels and a wool mix, this can fit a thick jumper underneath or perfect on its own. A great everyday jacket that goes well with anything. If you’re looking for something fancier then try the Hugo Tweed Blazer which comes in brown with cord patches – it’s ideal for the British Heritage trend at the moment. Wear with one of our much loved Chunk t-shirts and you’re ready to go.
